Focus on MALAYSIA
Jasa Merin (formerly known as Jackson
Marine) is a Malaysian company
supplying offshore support services to
the local oil and gas industry.
Its fleet is a mixture of straight supply
vessels and anchor handling tugs/supply
(AHTS) vessels and it has been expanded
rapidly in recent years to cope with
increased demand. The latest vessel to join
the Jasa ranks is the newly-built 'JM
Tenang', an AHTS delivered from
Muhibbah Marine Engineering, a shipyard
located in Port Klang, West Malaysia.
The modern Bureau Veritas classified
design comes straight from the drawing
boards of Singapore's Conan Wu &
Associates and reflects well on the build
quality of the yard. Measuring 60 metres in
overall length, the all-steel vessel has a 16
metre beam, a 5.5 metre hull depth and a
maximum draught of 4.85 metres.
Propulsion is by twin Yanmar 6EY26
main engines driving through Berg
controllable pitch propellers via Reintjes
gearboxes. These combine to give the vessel
a maximum speed of 13 knots and a
bollard pull of 60 tonnes. The propulsion
system and the single bow thruster are
interfaced into a dynamic positioning
system to give the vessel excellent station
The tug's anchor handling and towing
duties are performed utilising her main
Zicom-manufactured deck winch located
aft. This is backed up in its duties by two
capstans, a pair of tugger winches and a
five-tonne capacity deck crane.
The vessel's supply capacities include up
to 600 tonnes of cargo able to be
transported on her large aft deck as well as
substantial tankage in her hull for both
liquid and dry bulk cargoes.
Operating with a crew of 28, 'JM Tenang'
is a highly capable new AHTS with a
versatility that is sure to provide her new
owner with many years of productive service.
