Delivered at the beginning of December
2009, and destined to operate in the Port
of Muscat, Oman, the tugs 'Sanad 1',
'Sanad 2' and 'Sanad 3' were built under
survey to the Indian Register of Shipping
by India's Shoft Shipyard for the Royal
Designed by India's Cyber Marine (in
collaboration with Shoft Shipyard) using
AutoCAD 2007, the steel tugs each have an
overall length of 22.35 metres and a length
at waterline of 22.19 metres with a beam of
7.3 metres, a draught of 2.5 metres and a
depth of 3.2 metres.
Each tug displaces 165 tonnes and has
tonnages of 160GRT and 48NRT.
Each vessel is powered by a single
Cummins KTA-19-M3 main engine, rated
at 373kW at 1,800rpm, with power
diverted through a single ZF W350 gearbox
to drive a conventional, water-cooled FPP.
Auxiliary power on each is vessel is
supplied by a single Caterpillar C4.4 engine
with Stamford generator.
Each of the tugs is equipped with a
HyDrive steering system.
Each vessel is capable of a maximum
speed of eight knots (lightship), has a
bollard pull of 12 tonnes and a range
Each of the tugs has a full suite of
navigation and communications
instruments with radar, depth sounder and
DGPS system supplied by Koden
Electronics. Paints and coatings were
supplied by Jotun, India.
With a crew of eight, each tug has a fuel
capacity of 15 tonnes and a fuel
consumption rate of 78 litres per hour.
Shoft Shipyard currently has on
its order books a DP2, 275-person
accommodation barge (Y212), two
1,500-tonne self-propelled barges (Y228/229),
a single work boat-cum-supply vessel
(Y256) and a single naval offshore patrol
